Review:
Broadbent has done it again! The themes she weaves through her stories are intricate and balanced. The way she writes is as if she's a siren singing to the readers. After all, with her books, once I get about 30% through the book, I clear my schedule because I am entangled in her story and reading way past my bedtime!
In this installment, we start with a beloved character, Mische. In her first two books of this series, Mische is a loveable character that we have come to love but, in this book, we get a background story of her and how she became a vampire. Her story shatters you. The love she had for a God and whom she married is astonishing and shows a similar theme of women who are in abusive relationships when they see that what they have been through is not love at all but actual abuse. Mische goes through all of this and even starts to love Asar and he slowly starts to care for her and then towards the end, you know he was just as smitten as she was.
Mische has a lot of baggage with everything she carries, which is part of understanding her character. I love her even more for that because she cares and loves without the expectation of someone loving her in return. Her attempts to spread light and love in the world often lead people to see her as reckless. Now, they go on an adventure to resurrect a god and learn so much about one another and then BAM Broadbent hits us with a devastating blow, a cliffhanger.
This book's beautiful writing and addictive nature take you on an emotional rollercoaster, but it's worth it. Now, I will try to overcome my book hangover with something thrilling!
