Review:

Thought-provoking, historical, tense, and heartbreaking. This was an emotional rollercoaster. The story begins with Sam and Sarah, as they are high school sweethearts. However, life and unfortunate circumstances send them in opposite directions in life and then the great depression adds to everything. Sarah is off to college and Sam joins the reserves to have an income to help his family and to save for college. However, things change drastically when Pearl Harbor occurs and Sam must go overseas to serve his country.

This sets both of their life journeys into different paths they never thought would occur. They capture Sam as a POW; meanwhile, Sarah completes a Master's degree and begins a career in the military decoding messages.

All the horrors that Sam faces as a POW are the stuff made of nightmares and it's terrible! The experiences that Sarah has are not all bad but there is a decision she regrets but she did her job as she was told to do! This story is full of unspeakable things but also shows courage, love, and determination to do the next right thing! This one was spectacular!

I received the audiobook to listen to and review; the narrators brought the story to life, prompting reflection on the events and encouraging me to consider the world and the realities of war.

Thank you Brilliance Publishing and Netgalley for the opportunity to listen and review this one!
