Review:
Talk about a fantastic book!
This is a fantasy romance book full of history, lore, and, of course, forced proximity romance! Throwing the Romeo and Juliet story out there has striking similarities to this story, and I loved the vibe!
Cassia is the Sylvan King's daughter, a princess in her own right. When she was younger, she met a Dracu Boy, Zeru by a Yew Tree and they would share stories, trinkets, and gifts. All of that changed one day when Zeru gave Cassia an old ring from his mother's jewelry box. Thinking his mother wouldn't miss is because it was so old and ugly, he was mistaken. The ring belonged to the Dracu Queen, the Solis Gemma. Legend says this ancient ring, a prophetic artifact of the Ancients, possesses great power to slay enemies in battle, as it once did. When the Forest King feels the power on his land he rushes to the Yew Tree following the power the Dracu Queen does the same trying to take the ring from Cassia but her father saves her. They declared war on each other over the ring. However, the king tried to train Cassia to be a killer with the ring. It never worked quite as he wanted it to and he was often disappointed in her because of it. Well, in one battle, she tried using the power and Zeru abducted her in an attempt to get the ring back, but it did not work as well. So the Seer in the Cryptlands sends them to the place where the ring was created and Zeru strikes a bargain with Cassia to not hurt her while they go and he would have her back soon.
While they are at this place of the Ancients, they are having issues with one another and slowly they form a bond. This bond is a tricky thing between the two because of the history with their people. They do not trust one another and they have to work together to save both of their people before they wipe each other out!
An exciting journey played out, and once I started the book, I could not put it down! It was gripping and exciting and full of lore about the people and that was the really exciting thing! I also loved everything wasn't as it seemed, and then as the history came out slowly it was exciting and the tone of the story made the entire book readable in an afternoon! There is one fault in the book, though, that I cannot overlook. This is an ARC, and it comes out next month. Meaning I have to wait for book two for a lot longer than I would have! Great story! Thank you, Little Brown Books and Goodreads Giveaways for the extraordinaire opportunity to dive into a new world and follow the story!
