Review:
When Margot was going  back home to LA her mother Mina wasn't answering the phone. Thinking that Mina was busy with her store or maybe her friends. Then when Mina and her friend Miguel reach her childhood home in Koreatown, they open the door to find her mother deceased on the floor under suspicious circumstances. With the chapters alternating between Mina in the 80's to present and Margot trying to find out everything from who her moms friends were, to who she was spending time with to the history of her own mother since she immigrated and then what happened to her that one fatal night.
With Mina's story we learn about her heartbreaking beginning, the secrets, the survival and how strong Mina really is. Margot finally finds her voice, learns so much more about her mother that she never knew before and even the strength she had from her mother.
This is a story that pulls on your heart strings and opens you eyes to many of the challenges of being an immigrant, the fear if you are here illegally and the fear to call the police because they really don't care about the immigrants do they? This is a great story, I devoured it in one afternoon because I wanted to know what happened to Mina!
